London's Digital Media Industry

Digital media is any electronic media, such as video, audio or photo content where data is transmitted or stored in a digital form. Laptops, PDA's, MP3's and IPhones are all examples of digital media devices.

The term digital marketing refers to the use of digital media in marketing products or services and can include viral videos, website content and design, search engine optimization, online PR, social media, Pay Per Click advertising campaigns and SEM.

London's 'Silicon Valley' is the home of a large number of digital media companies who have chosen to open offices in Old Street, including Google and a wide range of leading creative, digital and high technology companies. The Tech City Investment Organisation, which promotes London's Silicon Valley, was launched by the government to build on the media and tech companies already situated in the East London area and to help create a global-leading technology center. Tech City has advanced from the Shoreditch area and extends to Stratford, providing opportunities for start-ups and multinationals, and it considers itself the digital capital of Europe.

The British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) represents the UK's digital media industry with the aim of promoting and supporting the British digital industry.
